Bad Luck Week for AHR on USMTS Tour
Tuesday @ LaMonte:
Hejna had a bad draw, and he had to race from the back of every race. Hejna still passed alot of cars and finished well considering (12th).
Wednesday @ Monett:
Hejna finished 2nd in his heat, and that qualified hime for 11th place start in the A. A crew didn't get the left front tight and it fell off on the parade lap. Hejna couldn't believe it, so officials waited for the tire to be replaced, but he had to restart 26th. Hejna finished 9th.
Thursday @ Springfield:
When the crew went to warm up the motor, it started chirping. After they went looking, they found a stuck lifter. Missed the heat. Ran one lap in the B. The crew rigged the motor to run on 7 cylinders. Hejna started 24th again right beside Kelly Shryock. Hejna raced with him the whole race and was passing him for 11th. Shryock had a right rear going down, and it brought him down into the number "7." Results = flat right rear tire. Came back to 15th...
Friday @ Humboldt:
The wierdest night for the crew. They switched motors and put one of Cory Dripp's little flat tapped IMCA motors in. It ran great in hot laps, but when Hejna went out for the heat trouble. Somewhere between the end of hotlaps and when he pulled on the track, the left drive flange that the axle splined to on the wheel stripped out - DNF in his heat. They figured Hejna would need another provisional, so everyone was hoping for Jon Tesch would get in out of the B. Tesch finished 4th (needed 3rd).
That meant Hejna would have race in from a 12th place starting spot. Hejna got to 5th spot. Hejna was hoping for a caution, and low and behold he got one (something went right). On the restart, he passed 4th down the front and was passing 3rd on the backstretch. Then something hit the oil pan and put a 3 inch hole in it - done for the night and not in the A.
Saturday @ Caney:
The team was just off and missed the show.
Everyone was happy the week was finally over. They are looking forward to starting over. AHR has their motor back, and they are looking to kick ***.
